Hello! Thank you for visiting. I'm a writer-at-large for the New York Times Magazine. My most recent book, The Girl Who Smiled Beads, was a New York Times bestseller and long-listed for the Andrew Carnegie Medal of Excellent for nonfiction. My magazine work has won a New York Press Club Award in feature reporting, a Lowell Thomas Award in travel writing, a GLAAD Award for coverage of LGBT issues, and been a finalist for a National Magazine Award, a James Beard Award in food writing, and Dart Award for coverage of trauma. It’s been anthologized in Best American Sports Writing, Best American Food Writing, and America’s Next Generation of Great Women Journalists. I live in San Francisco with my husband, the writer Daniel Duane, and our two teenage daughters.
